So You Want to be a Dice Setter - Part 13 - The Grip7
vote
The grip is the second leg to developing a good toss. You want to use a grip that feels comfortable and meets the requirements of you’re personal need, health wise. Arthritis in your hand will be reason enough to be selective on which grip you use. Try several grips and what ever shoe fits, wear it. The grip should be easy to apply and be able to be handled with a light touch. Placing the fingers up or down on the front of the dice will determined the amount of spin. The thumb placement also determines spin revolutions. Only trial testing will tell you how much finger adjustment you will need. The first picture you will see is a good position to move into your grip. The next four pictures are of the 3-finger grip from different views. It is one of the more popular grips. The one and two finger grips are easily moved into from the three and four finger grip.If you are having trouble keeping the dice together, try pressing you’re pointer finger and little finger against the side of the dice and then back off into your grip. I refer to it as the “two finger assist from the sides”. It is especially good with the two finger grip. The pincer grip petty much explains itself. It can be set up with the pointer finger or the index finger. Where you place you’re finger and thumb on the sides of the dice will give you a different reaction on release. Again it is necessary to experimentTHE GRIPS
